The Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM) and Tamil Foundation (TF) will be jointly organising a solo art exhibition of National Literature Laureate Datuk A. Samad Said, aka Pak Samad from Oct 3 to Oct 5 (Friday to Sunday).

This exhibition will be held at Upstairs’ Meeting Room of KLSCAH, open time is 10am until 7pm. There will be 84 pieces of artworks featuring painting, sketching, and manuscripts by Pak Samad.

President of KLSCAH, Tan Yew Sing explained that these organisations decided to organise the event on two accounts. First, is to give moral and spiritual support to Pak Samad. Second, is to showcase special artworks of Pak Samad to the public.

Zaid Kamaruddin, Vice President of IKRAM described Pak Samad as someone who has made huge contribution to the nation through literature and his involvement in societal issues. This event is a joint effort to show appreciation to his contribution.

Raghavan Annamalai from Tamil Foundation said that Pak Samad always gives an enlightened view of the facts, whether on education issues or current affairs topics. His effort on delivered his own potential and thinking can be a real model for teenagers.

Although Pak Samad is better known as a writer and social activist, he actually learned to paint in 1950’s and by that time it was his main area of focus. Later, his literature works begin to take more of his time. However, Pak Samad still uses painting as a form of self-expression, especially to express something that is indescribable by words. Most of his artworks are inspired by his writings, especially poems. “I can’t quite remember when I did my painting, but I do remember the mood, the feeling and the intention. This is important to me.” Although Pak Samad only paints occasionally, there are still demands for his artworks.

All the art pieces in exhibition are for sale to raise fund in support of Pak Samad. There will be a VIP night by invitation for local art collectors, one day before the exhibition start. Please contact 03-22746645 (KLSCAH), 03-89456999 (IKRAM) or 03-26926533 (TF) for further more information.
