Join representatives of Sarawak Indigenous Peoples’ communities, Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS), Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), SAVE Rivers and International Rivers for a panel discussion about human rights violations committed by by Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and the Sarawak Government against the people living around the proposed Baram Dam.
Longhouse residents of the communities that will be affected by the Baram Dam and the authors of the newly released human rights report, “No Consent to Proceed – Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Violations at the Proposed Baram Dam in Sarawak”, have come to the nation’s capital to share their perspectives on the violations of the Federal Constitution and the UN Declaration on Indigenous Peoples. On August 18th, they will be presenting the report to the National Human Rights Commission, SUHAKAM.
Discussion will be moderated by Mr. Yap Swee Seng, Executive Director of SUARAM, and followed by a question and answer period.
Light refreshments will be available.
The forum will be in both English and Bahasa Melayu.
