The KLSCAH 9th Civil Society Award 2024 nomination has officially ended, with a total of 10 nominations, including 7 organizations and 3 individuals.
This year’s nominees have actively advocated for social justice, community development, and the rights of underprivileged groups in their respective fields. The nominees are Jaringan Rawang Tolak Insinerator (JRTI), Malaysian Deaf Advocacy and Wellbeing Organisation (DAWN), Kachin Refugee Learning Centre, the sister of the late Teoh Beng Hock, Teoh Lee Lan, Beyond Borders Malaysia Founder Mahi Ramakrishnan, Borneo Komrad, Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF), PACOS Trust, SIUMAN Collective and Parti Sosialis Malaysia Chairperson Dr. Michael Jeyakumar.
The Award Committee will select three winners (individuals or groups), each receiving RM 5,000 in prize money and a certificate in recognition of their outstanding contributions to civil society.
The Award Committee includes former BERSIH Executive Director Yap Swee Seng, former BERSIH Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, former Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) Executive Officer Masjaliza Hamzah, Dr. Helen Ting Mu Hung of UKM’s Institute of Malaysian and International Studies, former SUHAKAM Commissioner Jerald Joseph, Chairman of IKRAM Hj Badlishah Sham, and SUARAM Executive Director Sevan Doraisamy.
The Civil Society Award ceremony will take place on December 10th at 7pm, featuring a keynote speech at the Auditorium Cheng Yi on the first floor of KLSCAH.
