{"id":16411,"date":"2016-03-12T10:22:39","date_gmt":"2016-03-12T02:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.klscah.org.my\/2016\/03\/16411.html"},"modified":"2020-11-26T18:33:48","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T10:33:48","slug":"%e3%80%90forum%e3%80%91one-pen-ten-thousands-men-media-freedom-in-malaysia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klscah.org.my\/en\/2016\/03\/16411.html","title":{"rendered":"\u3010Forum\u3011One Pen, Ten Thousands Men \u2014 \u2014 Media Freedom in Malaysia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10149 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/klscah.org.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/160322seminar2-717x1030.jpg\" alt=\"160322seminar2\" width=\"717\" height=\"1030\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Online news portal The Malaysian Insider(TMI), which turned eight last month,has been blocked by the Multimedia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).<\/p>\n<p>Since the disclosure of 2.6 billion scandal, Malaysian government has continued to crackdown of alternate news portals and\u00a0 tightening the noose of censorship around the necks of Malaysia&#8217;s vibrant online news portals.<\/p>\n<p>It noted the block on TMI followed similar censorship against regional news site Asia Sentinel, publishing platform Medium.com, whistleblower publication Sarawak Report, and socio-political blogs OutSyed The Box, Din Turtle and Minaq Jingo.<\/p>\n<p>The draconian action clearly violates point seven of the Multimedia Super Corridor Bill of Guarantees which guarantees no Internet censorship.<\/p>\n<p>The government also plans to table amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act to introduce heavier penalties for offences under the Act.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysians should be very concerned with the increased cases of Internet censorship by the government in recent months, signalling worse days ahead for freedom of expression and information in Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>KLSCAH Youth Section will be organizing a forum, 3 speakers are invited to be the panelists on this forum.
